Model 1a, Burst Onset and Offset
Additional aspects of the models voltage response that can be fitted to experimental data are time of burst onset and offset. Unfortunately, the complete relationship between these response variables and delay between the two inputs to the granular cell in the model cannot be compared to experimental results, since extracellular field recordings were limited to granular cell responses in a situation where the amplitude of primary afferent input was only sufficient to produce postsynaptic spikes up to a delay of 2ms post-EOCD (figure 2b, Bell and Grant, 1992). However, it is informative that both the model and experimental results display gradually increasing onset latencies with relatively constant offset latencies (figure 11). The slight negative trend in experimentally recorded offset latencies over the restricted delay range is not matched by the model, however (figure 11).
