Silent Auction Benefit gig for
"Georgena's Journey: A Community Confronts MS."
Time: Dancing Trees plays from 4:30 - 6PM.
Auction starts at 1PM and bidding ends at 4:30.
Rubyfruit and Dziva marimba bands will be performing from 1 - 4:30PM.

True to its name, "deep traditional," the Chinyakare Ensemble represents traditional music and dance from Shona, Ndebele, and other tribal groups from around Zimbabwe. Some of the main instruments the Chinyakare Ensemble plays are mbira (thumb piano), hosho (shakers), ngoma (drums), marimbas (wooden xylophones), chipendani (mouth bow), among others. The Ensemble performances feature the complex weaving of all of these instruments into beautiful melodies and polyrhythms that are still performed regularly at spiritual ceremonies throughout Zimbabwe. Under the direction of Julia, the Ensemble boasts a collection of diverse and experienced musicians from both Africa and the United States.
Proceeds of this event will benefit Tawanda muChinyakare (see www.chinyakare.org), a network of musicians, artists, teachers, and community organizers that was created for the purpose of weaving ancestral wisdom and creative expression with contemporary education and community work through the medium of African music and dance. Tawanda muChinyakare teaches classes to youth and adults that explore not only music, song, and dance, but also African culture and history. In addition, members spent this past summer working on developing a cultural center in Hatfield, Zimbabwe. This cultural center is designed to be a place where master musicians and dancers from Zimbabwe and beyond, will teach and inspire both Zimbabwean and foreigners from abroad.
